Her research and teaching at UC Irvine ensures these stories continue to illuminate the human reality behind simple statistics.

Born in Alabama and raised in Georgia, Dontaye Henderson discovered his literary voice in third grade. A UCI Sociology graduate, his writing humanizes the statistics of displaced populations behind global headlines. Drawing from narratives of displacement experiences, he crafts words that unveil hidden truths and challenge perspectives. Through his writing, Dontaye evokes understanding, believing our treatment of others reflects our humanity and that words can bridge divides and inspire unity.
UCI Sociology graduate Jesse Rinke discovered that despite common dreams, his ancestors who immigrated across the Atlantic in 1880 received a starkly different historical treatment from those who crossed the Southern border in 1915. This ignited his commitment to the project. As a playwright, he champions a fundamental truth: behind every border crossing stands not a statistic but a human being whose story, if truly heard, shatters prejudice and reminds us that dignity knows no nationality.

Farah Trablsie, a Syrian artist who fled Damascus during the conflict to build a new life in Istanbul, transforms her experience of displacement into powerful artistic expression. Drawing from her journey as a migrant, she uses her art to amplify refugee voices through exhibitions like "Women's Memory of Migration", "Dancing Through Spaces", and "The NaNaYa handmade project". Her work has gained recognition at venues such as the Venice Biennale and the Global Refugee Forum in Geneva.
Joel Abreu elevates silenced voices from society's margins through his masterful visual storytelling and advocacy. A UCI Sociology graduate and consecrated artist, he pioneered groundbreaking work for the Green Project at RJD in San Diego. Abreu merges aesthetic vision and social justice, shattering conventional boundaries and creating safe communication spaces through art.
